John Carroll University, or JCU, for short, is a private, co-educational Jesuit Catholic university in University Heights, nicknamed the `City of Beautiful Homes`, which is a city in Cuyahoga County, in the US state of Ohio, with a population of more than 12 500 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2009 census.
JCU was established in 1886 and was founded by the Society of Jesus, as Saint Ignatius College. It currently offers its students academic majors, minors, concentrations and programs, in a wide range of study areas, including pre-health professions studies and pre-law, along with many other programs.
John Carroll's athletic teams are known as the Blue Streaks and they compete in NCAA Division III, Ohio Athletic Conference. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold.
